The account of Moses should serve as a stark warning to our rebellious culture because it illustrates the terrible consequences of ignoring God's Word in our modern age, where His Commandments are being denigrated to meet the demands of the modern sinful man.
 
Nevertheless, the book closes on a hopeful note with Ezechiel's promise, which St. Bonaventure understood as a complete restoration of Christ's social kingship in the gloomy world of today.
